Auditory Objects and Artifacts, Guitar Collection, and Social Space

Social Jukebox is an exhibition and social space that was created at the Yuma County Museum and Historical Society in May of 2011. The work presents objects and artifacts from the museum collections that are associated with the history of audio and music around Yuma County, Colorado. Presented artifacts include records produced by the “Yuma Band” from 1930-1950, 35 collectible guitars from local citizen Twink Metzler, band trophies, historical music instruments and sheet music, 2 performance stage backdrops from a local school, and other objects of interest including turkey calls and kazoos. An audio listening station is also included in the exhibition of recordings made by Twink Metzler and a number of local music enthusiasts. These recordings were pulled from an archive of recordings made at “Living Room Studios,” an open door recording studio where anyone can stop by to play and record music with Twink at his home.
