M12

M12 is a collective of artists, designers, and creative professionals that operate as a not-for-profit and NGO. We view contemporary art as a vehicle for exploring community identity and as a powerful tool for the enhancement of civic life. As a community resource for evolutionary thinking, M12 explores how contemporary art can become a steward for innovative communication and effective global solutions. The Rural Research Archive
The Rural Research Archive is part of an ongoing investigation into the construction of the everyday built landscape. Serving a larger purpose of informing other bodies of work, the archive also exists as a project in itself, an accumulation of pictures that looks beyond the obvious, showing how disparate perspectives can inform interrelated but different spaces. There are currently over 2000 pictures in the archive and the images come from a number of locales across the America’s, Australia, and Europe. more…
Experimental ARCHolage (Santa Cruz)
Experimental ARCHolage (Santa Cruz) was a sculptural environment created in 2009 during a month long residency at Kiosko Galleria in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. For this project the built landscape of the region was explored and documented, with informal architectural structures and construction methods given specific attention. Social Jukebox
Social Jukebox is an exhibition and social space that was created at the Yuma County Museum and Historical Society in May of 2011. The work presents objects and artifacts from the museum collections that are associated with the history of audio and music around Yuma County, Colorado. The municipalWORKSHOP
The municipalWORKSHOP was a grassroots creative laboratory that created projects from 2002-2007. The projects were realized by a loose collective of artists, many of which have gone on to form the M12 Group. Models and Drawings
The drawings and models explore an interest in the poetics of the everyday vernacular landscape. The models are hybrid constructions made from available materials and inspired by structures usually found in rural locations. Patchwork sheds, water towers, tractor trailers, and farm structures all inform this body of work.
